My name is Cid Isbell, and I am the founder of Higher-Home. I have experienced a very rich and vibrant life and, along that path, I have experienced and learned a lot. I have lived in many different cities throughout North and South America. Experiencing different cultures and different types of people is so enriching. One of the things that has differentiated me and my life’s experience has been through living as a non-binary, trans-masculine person. What does that mean for me? It means that I was assigned female at birth and then chose to transition to male when I was adult. It also means that I don’t identify as a man although I look just like one, lol. This experience has gifted me with unique and rare firsthand experience living as a man and as a woman. It has also given me a very clear view of white male privilege in the world as I went from not having any white male privilege as a woman to having an abundance of it when I became male.
What has walking in my skin taught me?
That men and women really do have different experiences and are treated very differently in our world. This differences take many forms, some positive and others negative.
That all people are the same in that we all seek the identical things in life: Safety and Survival, Love and Belonging, Esteem and Respect, Self-Actualization, Purpose and Meaning
Human Beings are often afraid of what they do not know or have not experienced and this can lead to hateful reactions. If we could all take the time to get to know one another, this might go a long way in curing much of this fear and reduce hateful action in the world. (People often tell me that I have changed their view of transgender people and that they are surprised to find that I am just like anyone else)
That love and empathy can triumph in bringing the world together.
The one true way to live is by embodying kindness, empathy, love and acceptance.
What I came away with, in life, is the understanding that everything and everyone is interconnected. I have learned that nothing stands alone – no human, no animal, no plant, no community, no nation – we are all interconnected. This is why a Holistic approach to life makes so much sense. Holistic living takes into account the interconnectedness of all things and all aspects of self – Mind, Body and Spirit.
Higher-Home is my business, and it takes the same approach in Real Estate that I take in life – A Holistic Approach! Real Estate is the business of buying and selling real estate, but it’s so much more. Our homes are the places that we go to for sanctuary and safety. Let Higher-Home help you gather and prioritize your holistic needs in a home. Let us help you create that home that holds you in safety, nourishes you and allows you to be exactly who you are!
Why do I choose to live in Mexico?
Well, as I mentioned above about location being so important – I chose to live in a location where I am recognized, legitimate, safe and secure. I will not live in a country that is actively trying to criminalize me, persecute me and has declared that I do not exist!
The United States government is actively and purposefully eradicating the history and rights of any person that is not a White, Heterosexual, Cis-gendered, Conservative Christian Man (or married to one). Queers, transgender people, people of color, indigenous people and women (not married to white, cis-gendered, conservative Christian men) are being marginalized, erased, stripped of their rights and criminalized.
I have departed from the land of hate and will not return anytime soon. If you feel like you need to leave, please use me as a resource – I can help with information and connections.
to live life safely and securely. Many queer and trans people, along with their loved ones and families are rightfully feeling a tremendous amount of fear and worry in regards to their future in the United State. I want to speak out and offer you a place to find safety and security again. I believe that place is Mexico. Mexico’s legal system provides protection for gay people through various laws and constitutional amendments. These laws prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation. Same-Sex marriage is also legal in 32 states in Mexico and Same-Sex couples have the right to adopt children.
In Mexico, laws protecting transgender people have evolved significantly, with a focus on legal gender recognition and anti-discrimination measures. The Supreme Court has issued landmark rulings, including a 2019 decision outlining guidelines for legal gender recognition and a 2022 extension of this right to include children, according to Human Rights Watch. Mexican law recognizes the right of trans people to self-identify and have their gender identity reflected in legal documents, according to a report from the Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación.
